SeaKSeaK is an expeditionary sea kayaking program for campers ages 14-17 with ADHD, Asperger's, and learning differences. The Sea Kayaking takes place in the beautiful San Juan Islands of Washington, with programmed activities that naturally lends themselves to focus, communication, planning, and adventure. Campers in a small, closely supervised group work on social skills, accountability, confidence, and communication, while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Activities: Campers spend the first few days training on lakes learning all aspects of tandem sea kayaking, including operation, navigation, rescue skills, packing, and currents/tides. Once the group has mastered the skills necessary for an expedition, they set out on a 10 day trip throughout the San Juan Islands, camping at night on designated campsites which have been created by the Cascadia Marine Trail System.
Personal Growth: In a small and highly targeted learning group, campers build social skills, practice decision making and planning, while enjoying and learning from the beauty of the San Juan Islands. Through their well-supervised expeditions, campers practice goal-setting , concentration, and planning.
